Scientific background

People can progressively adjust sweating, circulation, drinking behaviour, and activity patterns during repeated heat exposure. The rate and magnitude of adaptation vary with age, health, medication, workload, and exposure history.

Adaptation is neither permanent nor unlimited protection. Decay after leaving the heat, transfer between heat patterns, and cross-tolerance with other stressors need careful study; individual advice remains a clinical responsibility.

Heat-adaptation research now connects short-term physiology with endocrine regulation, cross-tolerance, age differences, and recovery, while treating translation from controlled studies to communities cautiously.

Relevance to DML research

DML can study adaptation markers through approved human and simulation protocols without turning population patterns into individual medical advice.
